Section 8 - I Wetherby Road, Almshouse, Bowcliffe, Aberford Road

Description of 8-I Manor House

1. The two cottages opposite the old smithy are all that remains of the out buildings associated with Manor House, described in "Rural Houses of West Yorkshire 1400 - 1830" as the most imposing of the yeomen's houses in the village. It was divided into two separate residences in 1952. Manor House West is approached from High Street and the three Estate Cottages in High Street are built on what was Manor House land where barns and outhouses were demolished. Manor House East is accessed from Aberford Road, behind the cottages Nos. 1 & 2.

2. A letter from Peter Nightingale, owner of Manor House East, dated 1952 detailing the history of the house.

3. A colour photo of Manor House with architectural details of the Grade II listed building.
