Section 8 - H Wetherby Road, Almshouse, Bowcliffe, Aberford Road

Description of 8-H Aberford Road

1. A photo of a ploughing match in progress in 1995 in a field on the east side of Aberford Road. The associated notes comment on the fact that this field would have become part of Bramham New town if the 1990's proposals had not been thwarted.

2. The blacksmith's shop on Aberford Road with information on other smithies that once operated in the village.

3. A photo of Folly House in about 2000 showing in the background one of the houses of Folly Lane, built on land that formerly belonged to Folly House.

4. Two views of the northern end of Aberford Road. The first taken in the early 20th century shows the old smithy, behind which in the 1920s annual sports were held on Whit Monday and Tuesday on 'The Croft'. The four cottages on the left were originally a barn. The second view taken about 2000 shows a number of detail changes, e.g. the four cottages are now two houses.

5. Two further views of Aberford Road in 1997 plus a winter view of the junction with Vicarage Lane.
